About Matt Hubing
My History
My interest in the web started back in 2001 when a friend introduced me to the Web Standards movement. I developed a passion for web design by voraciously reading design blogs, reverse-engineering, testing, and customizing others’ examples. Technically this makes me a self-taught web designer, but I feel like I’ve been learning from the master teachers.
In 2006 I graduated from Valparaiso University with a degree in graphic design and a minor in new media journalism. I started my career at Zahra Design Group where I worked on print and web projects for DFW real estate companies, architectural firms, economic development corporations, and a clothing start-up. In October of 2007, I created Hubing Design as a sole proprietership to take on freelance projects with my developer friends. I joined Interstate Batteries in May of 2008 where I lead the redesign of their corporate website before returning to freelancing in February of 2009. Currently I’m looking for a full-time web design position.
Other Interests
video games: I’ve been a gamer since I was five. Video games are excellent examples of interface design and user experiences. Some of my favorite games are Half-Life, Fallout, Operation Flashpoint, GoldenEye 007, and Lucasarts adventures games.
grilling: Nothing beats a nice steak or tenderloin grilled to perfection. Kuby’s in Snider Plaza is my new favorite place to get meat. I also like to grill peppers, onions, and zucchini.
HD television: My wife and I are addicted to HBO shows like The Sopranos, Rome, Entourage, John Adams, Big Love, and Flight of the Conchords.
About Hubing Design
Hubing Design functions as my online portfolio. Hubing Design is in its second iteration and will be progressively enhanced as I master new design and development techniques.
Colophon
This website was hand-coded using a mix of Coda on my Power Mac G5 and Notepad++ on my Windows laptop. Graphics were produced with Photoshop. Oh, and where would I be without Firebug? Best. Plugin. Ever.
I’ve tested this website on Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer 7. Validate the code (XHTML, CSS) if you’re into that kinda stuff.
