Magritte Ad Agency

Dr. Martens Ad: Created for Mankind Dr. Martens Ad: Anti-Establishment Since 1959 Dr. Martens Ad: An Abundance of Comfort Dr. Martens Ad: Intelliget Life Found, Leaves Lasting Impression

This project began after studying eight visual strategies employed by René Magritte: isolation, modification, hybridization, change in scale, accidental encounters, double image, paradox, and conceptual bipolarity. These strategies construct meaning by creating new and unexpected associations. The same techniques used by surrealists painters can be found in many of the advertisements you see today.

I chose to play with Dr. Martens’ counterculture appeal.
